Nothing Much Happening
It is week 4 of my journey with The Master Key Experience and it appears nothing much happening this week. In our lesson on Sunday, Mark said that it would be an all or nothing week. He said that 100% of us would quit this week. We would either quit the course totally or quit doing it half-ass (my words). His words were a little more like, we would either quit the course totally or we would quit what we were doing and go all in 100%, but we would all quit.
Before Sunday, I had really contemplated quitting the course totally because this course is a lot of work. I don’t know why I thought it would be any different. I am working to change over 50 years of programming and thinking a certain way so, of course, it is going to take a lot of work. I continued to do the work.
As I read The Master Key System Part 4 this week, I was stuck by the words in number 12 that Charles F. Haanel wrote in 1910:
“…modern psychology tells us that when we start something and do not complete it, or make a resolution and do not keep it, we are forming the habit of failure; absolute, ignominious failure. If you do not intend to do a thing, do not start; if you do start, see it through even if the heavens fall; if you make up your mind to do something, do it; let nothing, no one, interfere; the ‘I’ in you has determined, the thing is settled; the die is cast, there is no longer any argument.”
I had to ask myself a question before I quit. Do I really want to continue to form the habit of failure? Haanel used the word “ignominious” which, according to Google, means ‘deserving or causing public disgrace or shame.’ Of course, that was not enough for me, so I looked it up in The Winston Dictionary 1939 College Edition. (That’s the closest I have to 1910.) The meaning there is, “full of, carrying, or incurring, public disgrace and dishonor; shameful; deserving disgrace; infamous; humiliating.” Haanel was saying that it is a pretty deep disgrace not to finish something we start.
So again, I had to ask myself, do I really want to continue to form the habit of failure? Not just any failure, but a big, fat, huge, life-changing failure! Do I really want to feel ashamed of myself and humiliated by not completing something I had every intention of finishing? NOT TODAY!
Back to my original statement of “it appears nothing much happening this week.” I don’t think that is really a true statement because a lot has happened this week. I have made up my mind.
I WILL NOT QUIT !!!
