Starting about age seventeen, my friends and I were always trying a new diet whether we needed to be on one or not. It was just the thing that you did.
There was The 3 Day Diet, The Grapefruit Diet, Atkins Diet, Weight Watchers, The Cabbage Soup Diet, The Beverly Hills Diet, The Scarsdale Medical Diet, The South Beach Diet, The Mediterranean Diet, Keto Diet, Carnivore Diet, Ketovore Diet (a heavier meat diet than you get on regular Keto Diet), Paleo Diet, The Dash Diet, The Mayo Clinic Diet, Vegetarian Diet, Vegan Diet, Jenny Craig Diet, Glycemic Index Diet, Nutrisystem Diet, The Zone Diet, Slim Fast Diet, Raw Food Diet, Whole30 Diet, The Arthritis Diet, The Heart Healthy Diet, Gluten-free Diet and many, many, many more.
Each diet seemed to have a different celebrity touting its praises. Some said to eat low fat, some high fat. Some said that salt was bad for you while some said that salt was good for you. There was always something new and always something a little different.
Two weeks ago, in The Master Key Experience, Davene announced that we are all starting a new diet. Oh great, here we go again! Davene told us that this is not like any new diet we have been on before.
My New Diet
It has nothing to do with the food we feed our physical bodies, but it has everything to do with what we feed our mind and subconscious. This new diet is The Seven Day Mental Diet by Emmet Fox.
What?!? Mental diet? I had never heard of such a thing and I had no idea what she was talking about. According to Fox, “For seven days you must not allow yourself to dwell for a single moment on any kind of negative thought.”

If we had a negative thought, we had seven seconds to substitute another thought for it through the Law of Substitution. If we thought on it for longer than seven seconds, we were to start the seven days over again. If we expressed that negative thought in any way, verbally or non-verbally, we were to start over. The goal was to go seven consecutive days without focusing on or expressing any negative thoughts. Ok, I see where we are going with this.
Our new week and thus our diets started off last Monday. I was woken up by a friend calling me Monday morning. As we chatted, she told me about some mutual friends of ours and what they are doing. Well, that did it. I was fed up with these friends doing the same thing over and over again expecting different results and I proceeded to tell her all about it!
I stopped myself as I realized what I was doing and busted out laughing. I was expressing my negative thoughts about our friends. When I told my friend about my new diet and what I was laughing about she laughed too. She laughed even harder when I told her that I had only been at it for ten minutes and was already starting over. I think I started my day over two more times that Monday. Then a few times on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
I have been at this new diet for almost two weeks now and I don’t think I have made it longer than two days without having a negative thought for longer than seven seconds or expressing them. I don’t know how long it will take me to string together seven straight days on this diet, but I will keep practicing. I will work to just stop thinking negative.

It becomes a habit and one that has help me shift my focus. Been at it for over a year and even though I have yet to go a full week, it has helped me become more aware and positive!
Thank you LJ for your encouraging words. I will keep at it.
Isn’t it wonderfully stopping to recognize our thoughts?!
It is Nicole. Wonderful to see the changes starting to take place.
Linda, good for you for continuing to practice. From your blog rover friend John.
Thank you John for all your encouragement. Your friend, Linda
